Kraken 13.5 Description

The new Kraken 13.5 is a boat shaped and built to accommodate those hitting the open water, in a nimble, smaller footprint, but still capable of big water management. Based on The Kraken 15.5 platform, the 13.5 sheds some length for more maneuverability but with all the punch of its big brother. This kayak, just like the original, is designed for the most challenging paddling environments in the world and intended for the offshore and big lake kayak angler. It’s designed for punching through surf, handling rough offshore currents, swells, beach landings and those who desire ultimate performance and maneuverability while chasing big fish.

I picked up a used Kraken 13.5 several years ago. This kayak does most things very well. Reasonably stable, tracks like it’s 15’, a great fishing platform in rivers or bays, not too heavy, durable, and super comfortable. I’ve owned several kayaks and this one is my hands down favorite.

I’ve paddled and owned many SOTs and I like the 13.5’ Kraken better than any of them. First, I’m 6’3” and 250 lbs. It’s quality, smartly built and durable with the fisherman in mind. Nice layout and storage. The seat is so comfortable other manufacturers have copied its design. Completely at home in small creeks to open water. It’s reasonably stable and I have no problem standing while I fish. Also, it is reasonably fast and tracks great, even with the rudder up. With a true high capacity, I can comfortably carry plenty of gear for a couple days camping. So, while it’s not necessarily the best at each of the qualities listed above, it’s great at all of them. Maybe that’s why it’s the one of my seven kayaks I grab the most.

I got a Kracken this past spring and I love it. It's a stable platform to fish or paddle with my dog but it paddles well. I tried a lot of fishing kayaks and just couldn't find one that paddled well enough. Until my Kracken. Lots of room for tackle and gear, comfortable seat. Nice boat!

A+ Product! Never owned a…

A+ Product! Never owned a kayak before, have been a lifelong canoer, a sometimes fisherman, and lifelong waterbaby [triathlons, waterski, etc]. Studied up on kayaks, and being 6'2" and 200#, wanted to make sure I could go into lakes comfortably, paddle, exercise, and get from point a to b. Also to go fishing on occasion. The Kraken 13.5 nails my requirements! I didn't quite understand the term 'tracking', but after going into Lake Erie at 10+ knot winds and 3 foot chop, it doesn't take much to keep this kayak going right into the waves and into the wind. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised that I could keep up speed in such conditions and not get pushed around! Wow! Well designed, uber comfortable seat, and high quality fit and finish. At $1200 this product is a very good buy.
