Trip Overview

One of our experienced clients recently asked me about doing an outdoor cooking course. I thought – what better way than to combine it with a trip that will stick to the wall of your memory like an overcooked noodle. We are fortunate in Northern Michigan to have the Big Manistee River as a paddling resource and by taking our favorite stretch nice and slowly, we have time to help you hone your cooking and stove skills along the way.

This course will begin a few days before the trip with some preparatory homework, so that you’ll start out of the gate with a bit of a menu plan, some raw materials and ready to have a great time! Think one part “Iron Chef”, one part “Chopped”, but everyone wins because we all get to enjoy the fruits of your labors. Your basically learning the secrets of how we build and plan menus around our participants and turn out legendary fare in a backcountry setting. This is the first course of its kind, but is sure not to be the last. In addition to pre-trip homework, you’ll also be taking home some tangible outdoor kitchen tools to show for it.

NOTE: We will limit this to 6 people working in teams of two on meals.
