In December 2017, we (a group of 6 friends in their 60's ranging from novice to intermediate kayakers) paddled out to Isla Dazante and Isla Carmen on a 6 day Loreto Primer trip with Sea Kayak Baja Mexico, based in Loreto. Our guides, Marcos and Tuku, were highly skilled paddlers who worked well together. The lead guide, Marcos, was very experienced in this area and showed great judgement in finding windows of time in which it was appropriate for longer crossings, given the generally windy conditions. He also showed very good judgment in arranging a mix of paddling, hiking and snorkeling opportunities. The scenery, birds, fish and water were spectacular! The meals were generally simple, nutritious and tasty.
What most strongly impressed me was how Sea Kayak Baja Mexico focused upon the experience of paddling and camping. Their fleet of kayaks included Romany, NDK and TideRace kayaks. Their tents were first-rate MSR Hubba Hubba tents. Marcos and Tuku were highly skilled instructors and very enthusiastic in providing instruction in paddling strokes, bracing and rolling. (Sea Kayak Baja Mexico also offers courses including ACA level 5 courses). The quality of instruction compares well to George Gronseth's Kayak Academy in Issaquah, WA.
