La Malbaie to Cap a l'Aigle

A self-supported trip created by ZydecoSteve

Trip Overview

Launch at low tide from a shoreline park across the creek from downtown La Malbaie. Slog out through sandy shallows in the St Lawrence River. Proceed along the shore downstream a few km with the current to Cap l'Aigle. As the ebb ends and the tide surges, face some turbulence and then turn around in order to go with the flow. Enjoy a tidal push back to the starting point and find the channel of the Malbaie River much easier to paddle as the river water rises.

Safety Notes

St Laurent currents

Gear Notes

Water is never that warm here. Dress to insulate

Conditions

Winds, waves, tides, currents, rock gardens and fog.

Portage Notes

from the parking spot to the waters edge is a cakewalk, even easier at mid-tide or higher.
