Trip Overview

A short morning paddle that started at the Placeway put-in within the Island Lake State Recreation Area was cut even shorter by a plethora of sandbars and treefall, ultimately ending when I reached a fallen tree I couldn't, and didn't really relish overcome. Even so, an entertaining little bit of paddling, even encountering a pair of sand hill cranes who showed their displeasure at my interest in them.

Safety Notes

Lots of fallen, dead trees along with a number of shallow spots causing multiple groundings.

Gear Notes

Dagger Axis 12.0 Werner Camano carbon fiber paddle

Conditions

Light current, sunny, warm day, around 84 degrees.

Portage Notes

None
