| For those looking for gifts under $50 for paddlers, consider UV-protectant clothing or a skincare regimen that addresses paddlers’ skincare needs. Neoprene gloves or booties and an electric pump are utilitarian gift ideas. For a cheaper option, consider a waterproof headlamp, a drybag, a wide-brimmed hat, or a solar-powered lantern. For those seeking stocking-stuffer ideas, consider a safety whistle, UV-protectant lip balm, or a floating keychain. |

| I’m looking at a trip where there is a lot of shallow water of a foot or less depth. The bottom is firm sand. I dislike banging my paddle on the bottom to get across these areas and have often wished I had some short sticks or polls for pushing through. This post is to ask if any kayakers use polls in lieu of paddles to get across shallows. If so, can you describe what you use? Are there hand grips? |
