For those shoulder season and year round paddlers (nothing wrong with summer only paddlers, I’m a summer only roller, @sing laughs at that), what temp do you put on the gloves and/or pogies (no wind, waves)?
I’m guessing that I’m on the ‘wimpy’ side, mine go on when temps are under 60 (pre-dawn, with sun maybe 55). I’m in (northern, you know, the arctic zone of) Florida. Those hard core paddlers up north, probably would handle colder temps.
As temps rarely go below 30 here, I’m good with just ‘lightweight’ pogies.
Until last winter, my favorite was the ‘Reed Chillcheater Aquatherm Low Profile Pogies’. Last March I picked up a pair of ‘Kosi Pogies’ (from @Marshall). They are my fav now (little more room for the hand, a little more coverage, and easy in and out with the hands (not like the ‘nylon’ pogies in the past). Now, on a daily basis, I switch back between the 2 (Reed vs Kosi, it often takes longer than a day for one pair to dry, so I switch between them).
I think neoprene pogies are warmer, but they are also much heavier (and I can’t use them because I’m allergic to the neo).
