I am wondering about the group’s thoughts on dry bags, and I don’t see any threads less than 14 years old. (I didn’t search for online articles)
a) How often do you usually need to top up flotation bags? In other words, how long do they usually hold their air?
b) Do you do something with the end of the fill tubes to keep dirt off them?
c) If you have rubber hatch covers that don’t have straps or catches to keep them from opening in the water, have you secured your flotation bags inside the kayak so they won’t float out in an event?
d) What’s the best material for a balance of effectiveness/durability/cost? (in kayak compartments where there is no sun exposure)
e) If your compartments are full of camping gear and supplies inside drybags, so there is no room for flotation bags, how well will a swamped kayak float based on the dry bags?
f) Do you take flotation bags on camping trips and inflate them more each day to fill the space freed up as the food supply volume goes down? (slow current flat-water river trips)
